Shogun – “Erhu” – BUY
As music listeners progress through exploration of music – there always seems to be a collection of songs that just stops our breath and floods us with memories and reminders of our love of music. For us, one of those songs that catches us every time is Shogun‘s “Skyfire” which we caught live in Armin‘s set back at Electric Zoo in 2011. Since that time – Shogun, also know as Andrew Chen, has and always will hold a special place as one of our favorite producers. Most recently, Armin debuted a new smoking Shogun track on ASOT650 that features the distinct sounding Chinese violin called the erhu. “I’ve been wanting to do a track with the erhu for a long time,” says Andrew Chen. “It’s a traditional Asian instrument and I always thought it sounded beautiful” – so he tracked down an erhu player from Taiwan on YouTube and explained to him his plans to modernize the sound. Doing just that, the new single from Shogun is appropriately named “Erhu” and signed to ArminD/Armada Music.
