Nate Raubenheimer, better known as Protoculture: has been ranked by DJ Mag in 2011 and 2012, as South Africa’s number one DJ. That’s huge in general, and especially for someone who’s humble beginnings began as an audio engineer. Nate entered the music production scene while very young, and at the age of 20 found success with his first album “Refractions”. Since that time, Nate has payed alongside many of the world’s greatest DJs such as Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Armin van Buuren, John 00 Flemming, Orbital, Future and Sander van Doorn.
Signed to Armada‘s ‘Re*brand‘ label, “Laguna” is the latest from Protoculture kicking off with a subtle beat that slowly and methodically begins to add layers. Eventually these layers morph the new single into a landscape of melodies that leave the listener sunken and into a chair and submerged with uplifting happiness. The drop of then fuses this sweetness into an uplifting snow storm of house chords and layers of beats colliding until all calms down and settles into what’s called “Laguna”.
